Pan tu nie stal + Fajne Chłopaki

"Dziadostwo" means tacky. This one is my favourite. I've got one! ;)

These are two amazing Polish fashion and graphic design companies: "Pan tu nie stał" and "Fajne chłopaki". These guys are both from Łódź and came up with an idea to print old Polish communist style graphic signs on T-shirts and sell it online. Though I have to underline that they use it in two different ways.

Their ideas come from the communist times in Poland when logos were grey and sad, but people used to invent very catchy and simple (one may call them minimalist;) slogans or phrases which inspired the working class! This unique language is still alive but in a different way, usually percieved as a joke or a funny expression that refers to past history. We also use it when we want to remind someone how one used to live under the communist regime in Poland. These words, as well as visual objects are very characteristc for those fortunately bygone times. However, it is useful to have such interesting, though foreign, heritage that one can use in the present to create a fashion or print brands - as it all started with "Pan tu nie stał" and "Fajne chłopaki".

"Fajne chłopaki" in Polish means "Nice guys", so I suppose Maciej Lebiedowicz i Łukasz Zbieranowski (the brand designers) are nice guys! They run a graphic studio. They specialise in prints and graphics inspired by communist design created in Poland (typesets, printing, identification objects, language, etc.) but also they create Internet websites of all different sorts. "Pan tu nie stał" cooperates with "Fajne chłopaki". It is inspired by culture and design in Poland between 1930-1989. People who work for this company represent mainly artists born in the 80s or right after the collapse of Communism in 1989. They print T-shirts, sell scarves and hats, stickers, posters, interior design objects (cups, fantasy porcelain figures made at the Polish china factory in Ćmielów), toys for children and childrens' books and other amazing gadgets. Pan tu nie stał also sells Argentinian "Paez" shoes. You can find more pictures on their facebook profile.

Mój Łódź Design Festival/My Lodz Design Festival

Tydzień temu podporządkowałam wszystkie plany jednemu celowi - spędzeniu choć jednego popołudnia na Łodzkim Festiwalu Designu. Wydarzenie trwa od 14 do 30 października 2010. Udało mi się uczestniczyć w pierwszym , najważniejszym weekendzie Festiwalu. Oczywiście nie bez nieoczekiwanych perypetii po drodze. Zdecydowałam pojechać samochodem ze znajomymi. Mieliśmy w planie spędzić w Łodzi całe popołudnie, mając nadzieję dojechać tam w max. 3,5h. Wyruszyliśmy wcześnie rano o 7. Kiedy po 2h drodze byliśmy dopiero w okolicach Częstochowy, samochód nagle zatrzymał się na światłach, okazało się, że dalej już nie ruszy. Okoliczny mechanik zachował pełen folklor (szkoda strasznie, że nie robiłam zdjęć z napięcia) i oznajmił, że zepsuło się sprzęgło i dalej nie pojedziemy. A na pewno nie tego samego dnia. Na okolicznym dworcu, 70 km od Łodzi, czekaliśmy na słynne PKP, które tą odległość miało przejechać w 2h 15min! Do Łodzi dotarliśmy około 14h. Nim dojechaliśmy na Tymienieckiego, gdzie prezentowana była główna część ekspozycji i znajdowały się najciekawsze wystawy, minęło kolejne pół godziny.. To był dramat, ponieważ zgodnie z moim planem, tego samego wieczoru miałam znaleźć się w Warszawie. Pociąg z Łodzi Fabrycznej odjeżdżał o 17.30. Na oglądnięcie wystaw zostało mi góra 2 godziny!

Niemniej udało mi się oglądnąć bardzo ciekawe instalacje artystyczne, projekty wzornictwa przemysłowego i mebli. Moją uwagę przykuł ReMade market, gdzie swoje prace prezentowali młodzi projektanci mody. Jednak temu tematowi poświęcę oddzielny post.

Kiedy szukaliśmy drogi do Łódź Art Centre, trafiliśmy przez przypadek do przepięknej  neorenesansowej Willi Grochmana. Spójrzcie, jak to wspaniale, że się zgubiliśmy.

A tutaj wariacka instalacja z ruszających się krzeseł.

Następnie poszliśmy do Łódź Art Centre na Tymienieckiego, gdzie oglądaliśmy ekspozycje designu prezentowane w zaadaptowanych pofabrycznych budynkach.

FOX the Champion

I am very happy! I want to share some news with you! My blogger friend Kasia who is also the author of the Fox drawing, wrote a post on her blog about my new reappearance to the blogger community. I once had a blog, but it wasn't what I wanted it to be, so I had to change it.
I named my blog after the drawing that I recieved as a gift from Kasia last year. It pictured me. I don't remember who gave the name to the Fox, but I reckon it was me. Now it is called Fox the Champion. Have a look at Kasia's recent post from the 14th October 2010. She is a brilliant, very talented illustrator and I am a fan of her sketches.

By the way, there is also a great film about a fox, based on a children's book by Roald Dahl entitled "Fantastic Mr Fox". Take a look at the trailer below.

Y-dress

Kiedyś natknęłam się na wywiad z Aleksandrą Paszkowską w jednym z lepszych babskich pism. Zaciekawiła mnie opowieść o powstaniu jej marki i o sukcesie jej pomysłu na modę. Od tamtej pory śledzę nowości każdej z jej kolekcji i czekam aż przyjdzie czas kiedy uda mi się coś samej u niej kupić. Projekty sprzedawane jako Y-dress? są zniewalające. Pomyśleć tylko, że kupujesz 1 sukienkę, a okazuje się, że możesz ją nosić na 3 różne sposoby, co sprawia wrażenie jakbyś miała 3 zupełnie oddzielne stroje.
Sukienki Księżniczki (Instant Princess) są numerem nr. 1 w jej kolekcji. To dla kapryśnych panien, które nie wiedzą czy w ostatnim momencie się nie rozmyślą i uciekną ukochanemu sprzed ołtarza.Sukienkę można szybko spakować i założyć inne przebranie dla niepoznaki, a mały pakuneczek ze złożoną sukienką nieść obok jak małą torebkę.. Pomysł jest świetny!

I once came across an interview with Aleksandra Paszkowska published in a Polish fashion magazine (unfortunately, the article is in Polish). A story of building a successful brand in the fashion industry caught my attention. Since then, I've been following Y-dress? new collections and I can't wait until I myself will have a chance to buy something designed by them. Paszkowska's projects are amazing. Let's suppose you buy a dress which can instantly turn into 3 dresses at once or other clothes, depending on your imagination and style! Isn't it exquisite (I like that word, but won't overuse it)? For me, Instant Princess is No. 1 in the Y-dress? collection. It's an idea for girls who are moody and don't mind changing their decisions, i.e. standing up your beloved at the altar. The Instant dress can be quickly packed into small hand luggage and can be carried around everywhere. The idea is simply brilliant!

Następny pomysł Y-dress? to Reversibles, czyli ubranie do noszenia z dwóch stron. Można je dostosować do najróżniejszych okazji, raz zabawnie, raz poważnie. W różnych konfiguracjach, w zależności od humoru i wyobraźni sukienki mogą zamienić się w bluzeczki, czy kardigany.

Next Y-dress? idea is called Reversibles. They are clothes that you can wear on both sides. They can match many different occasions: funny or formal. In various ways, depending on your mood or vision, dresses can adjust into blouses or cardigans.

Y-dress? ma już dwa sklepy w Brukseli. Autorka mieszka na stałe w Belgii, a pochodzi z Wrocławia. Idea powstania firmy wywodzi się od "happy T-shirt", który od 1996 roku funkcjonuje jako nieodłączny element wyrażający filozofię jej marki. Dzisiaj dostępne są nawet "szczęśliwe marynarki"/"happy suit", które można nosić na spotkania biznesowe. Filozofia Paszkowskiej to moda miejska z przymrużeniem oka, idąca na całość w realizacji projektów. Artystka wciela w życie inne zasady "szczęśliwej" firmy. W przerwie obiadowej sama gotuje potrawy przygotowane oczywiście z ekologicznych składników, dbając o dobrą atmosferę i samopoczucie oraz wspólne w nie zaangażowanie.

Y-dress? has already its two shops in Brussels. Aleksandra Paszkowska, the brand's creator and owner, lives in Belgium, but originally comes from Wroclaw in Poland. The company's has been developed on an idea of a "happy T-shirt" which since 1996 has been representing the brand's philosophy. Today, the famous T-shirts have their twin - happy suit - suitable for business meetings. Paszkowska's concept is tongue in cheek urban fashion which goes for broke. The artist practices rules of a "happy company". During lunch break, she herself cooks for her employees prepared from organic ingredients. She cares about a good work environment and the well-being of her team, but also is demanding of its cooperation.

Osobiście bardzo chciałabym mieć jej happy T-shirt, albo nawet marynarkę. Najbardziej podobają mi się jej dzianinowe bluzki wiązane i oczywiście Instant Princess, ale największym hitem są majtki ratunkowe (emergency underwear)! Sami zobaczcie co się pod tym kryje klikając na link.
